What is Thanksgiving?

In the year 1620, the Pilgrims in England wanted the freedom to worship as they pleased. They decided to leave England on a small ship called the Mayflower. They sailed across the Atlantic Ocean. The difficult journey lasted over 2 long months. Life was very hard on the Mayflower. The Pilgrims finally reached America and named their new community Plymouth. The first winter was very cold and half of the Pilgrims died. The Pilgrims made a peace treaty with the Native American Tribe. In the fall, the Pilgrims   had a feast to thank God for their great harvest. They invited their Indian friends to join them for the feast. The feast and fun lasted for 3 days! Today, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving every year on the last Thursday in November.

This year we celebrated our Thanksgiving Day on November 22nd Sunday because everybody in my family doesn’t have work on that day. On Thanksgiving Day, our families come together. We have traditional Thanksgiving dishes and some not so traditional Thanksgiving dishes. There is so much food at Thanksgiving Day that we end up having enough food for the next day!  At Thanksgiving we enjoy fellowshipping and spending time together as a family, eating delicious food and having a wonderful time singing hymns of Thankfulness. There are so many things to be thankful for.
